Running for Others
Posted by: A Penney Watcher

He never thought that he would ever run a 10k race. In 2005, he weighed 75 pounds more than he does today and was faced with making serious changes to his lifestyle. Being inspired to run for someone else, he embarked on a long journey that resulted in a new man - one 75 pounds lighter with the motivation to run. Not long ago, he ran his first 5k and 10k and this past year he directed his efforts to worthy causes in his former church and to the hospital at which he works. He couldn't believe the generosity of friends and family who stepped up to the plate to sponsor him to the tune $8,360 at this year's 5k run.

To sweeten the pot, he offered to have the largest sponsor witness the shaving of his head. If you only knew this man, you would more clearly understand what a prize this would be for the winning sponsor. Suffice it to say that this little challenge is indicative of the contagious fun-filled spirit that surrounds him wherever he goes. Just a few short years ago he could have never imagined this story being written. As anyone who has lost this amount weight knows, it was probably harder for him to lose the weight than run the 10k.

But if you are reading this and struggle with your weight, believe him when he says, "You can do it. Just focus on helping somebody else."

Your insightful comments clearly resonated with the audience and your delivery was nothing less than energetic and sincere. Thanks for sharing.
